The Mary Rose project

Earlier this year the Society was approached by Purbeck Art Weeks with a request to assist with funding a trip for children from Swanage, St Mary’s, St George’s and Corfe Castle Primary schools who they were taking to visit the Mary Rose Museum on Wednesday April 5th. 84 children were due to go, and the aim was for all the children to be able to regardless of parental income. Following the visit the children were due to sing in a performance of “Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose” by Alexander L’Estrange for adult and children’s choirs, on June 9th at St Mary’s Church Swanage, during Purbeck Art Weeks 2017.

The musical event was based on the Mary Rose, hence the relevance of the visit.

The committee decided that a donation of £25 was appropriate, and the trip went ahead as planned, as did the performance.

We received a very nice thank you from Jay Buckle on behalf of the group, and with apologies for the late posting of this, the letter is attached –
