Corfe Castle: revealing the ruins

Since the castle was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1982, archaeologists have made some surprising discoveries. Apart from cannon balls there was a mysterious set of deer bones, several garderobes, the remains of an 18^th century building featured in a JMW Turner painting of 1793 and a settlement crack in the keep ! 

We’ll also be taking a quick look at the earlier excavations of Saxon post holes in 1885 and skeletons in 1948-52.
