Talk: AGM and Talk about Prospect Farm by Alan Smith

April 11th 2025, 2.30pm — Join us for our AGM (usually takes 20 mins) and Talk about Prospect Farm.
Following a short AGM, Alan Smith will give a talk “A Swanage family’s 100 years of farming”.
Alan Smith will be talking about his family’s connection to Prospect Farm and other local farms since the beginning of the 1900’s.
Alan, now 91 years old has seen how the town and its farming community has changed through 2 world wars, troop and military training, use and decline of the railways and expansion of housing and the the holiday trade on previous agricultural farming land.
He managed the area that became Durlston Country park and the areas of the previous busy quarrying industry.
His extended family are still local farmers in this area, renowned for high quality livestock and dairy produce.
Purbeck Society talks are held in the Mowlem Community Room, located in Swanage.
Talks start at 2:30pm (doors open at 2:15pm).
Talks are free to members, non-members £3.
