Jeffry Wyattville built Claverton manor in 1820. In the late 1950’s it became the home of the American Museum in Britain. Inside the Manor there are 18 period rooms that show the development of American decorative art from 1680 to the 1860’s.

In addition there are galleries devoted to Folk Art, Native American art and a large collection of quilts and other textiles.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne House and its estate from Lady Isabella Blatchford in 1845. In 1848 the old house demolished and a new three-storey pavilion with flagtower and main and household wings was built.
