Swanworth Quarry visit

Purbeck Society members are invited to Suttles Swanworth quarry near Worth Matravers at 2pm on Wednesday 27th July.

John Suttle has invited us to the quarry and writes:

The tour is around the quarry and restored areas, with discussion and informal Q&A on: the history of the quarry, extraction, waste management, de-carbonisation of our processes, restoration for biodiversity gain, and future quarrying. The full tour is a 1 ½ – 2 mile walk with stops at key points throughout. It normally takes at least an hour and a half but can be longer depending on how many good questions we get! As an operational quarry there is rough and loose stony ground and some lengthy inclines so we always recommend that people wear suitable walking boots or similar. We normally have a pick-up truck on standby to ferry anyone back to the carpark if the walk becomes too arduous for anyone or weather becomes a problem.
